MarthaIn case you haven't heard the big news, celebrity homemaker and multimillionaire businesswoman Martha Stewart was found guilty on all remaining charges yesterday. After being acquitted of the most serious charge against her, that of securities fraud, the 62-year-old was convicted of obstructing justice and lying to the government about a well-timed stock sale. The verdict will most likely mean prison time at a maximum of 20 years.
Now is it just me or does it seem a bit ironic that a woman who literally wrote the book on fashionable homemaking and gracious living will most likely make her home in a federal penitentiary soon? While some may feel sorry for the old lady, I certainly don't. Maybe this case, unlike O.J.'s, will prove that celebrities are just like the rest of us and won't be allowed to get away with everything.
And now that she's pretty much guaranteed a room in the joint, I wonder if they'll set her up with some minimum-security luxury cell or actually confine her to a common criminal lock-up. Do you think they'll let her put up drapes and adorn her cell lamps with hand-crafted shades? It looks like we'll find out for sure when she's sentenced on the 17th of June.# posted by Nav : 10:02 AM
